Apple Records veröffentlicht 59 Outtakes, Demos und BBC Sessions der Beatles – womöglich, um weiterhin die Rechte an den Aufnahmen halten zu können.
Laut Nachfrage des "Guardian" wollte Apple Records sich nicht zu den Gründen für die Veröffentlichung äußern. Beatles-Experte Roger Stormo nimmt an, dass die Firma die Songs gar nicht herausbringen wollte – sondern sich zu diesem Schritt gezwungen sah, damit man die Rechte an diesem Katalog behalte. Diesem Schritt läge eine Änderung im EU-Recht für Urheberrecht zugrunde. Dieses Gesetz legt fest, dass jede Musik 50 Jahre nach ihrer Aufnahme der Öffentlichkeit frei verfügbar werden müsse. So wie im Fall der Beatles-Sessions, deren Alter nun 50 Jahre zurück liegt.
